Recap: 2012 Welcome Party and Picnic Lunch

Image2012 Welcome Party and Picnic Lunch

On July 29, 2012, the Washington and Lee Northern New Jersey Chapter welcomed local members of the Class of  2016. For the eleventh year, Ward (’69) and Hilary Dorer graciously hosted the popular event at their home on Cedar Lake in Denville. Although rain moved the picnic inside for a while, intermittent sunshine gave guests plenty of opportunities to enjoy the lake view from the picnic tables and boathouse. Almost 25 alumni, new and current students, family and friends came together to share stories about W&L and life in Lexington. Incoming students exchanged information about dorms and what to expect when they arrive on campus in September.

ImageAlumni in attendance included Chapter Law Liaison Phil Adelman ‘03L, Chapter Young Alumni Chair Jason Cimino ‘11, Ward Dorer ‘69, Chapter Member at Large John Gunkel ‘89, Chapter Secretary Danielle McDavit ‘97, Chapter Social Chair Kate Muscalino ‘03,  NNJ Alumni Admissions Program Chair Josh Prell ‘09, Daniel Sozomenu ‘01, Robert Uhlman ‘12, and Chapter President Stephanie Wolfe ‘99. Present from the Class of 2016 were Sally Curtiss, Hailey Degnan and Danielle Rosenthal. Current W&L students joining us included Chapter Student Liaison Taylor Magrath and Paul Nguyen.

ImageNNJ Alumni Admissions Program Chair Josh Prell ’09 said the picnic was a huge success.  “Thank you again to Ward and Hilary Dorer for hosting such a great event.  On behalf of all of the members of the W&L Alumni Northern NJ Chapter, I would like to wish the first-year students much success as they embark on a great four years in Lexington.”

Stay tuned for our next event!

Recap: NNJ Spring Golf Outing

NNJ Spring Golf Outing

The Northern New Jersey Chapter’s annual golf outing took place this year at Canoe Brook Country Club on Thursday, May 3, in Summit.  Hosted for the second year in a row by Todd Hyde ‘81L and Rob Barber ’79, the group returned to play the South Course after having conquered the North Course last year.

As always, the event started with a group lunch to determine teams and make fun of each other’s fraternities.  This year’s winning team was led by Todd Hyde ‘81L and included Garth Schulz ‘88, Clark Finney ’06, and Rich “Long Drive” Kampf ‘71.  The second place foursome included Ben Phillips ‘76, Brian Carroll ‘78, Coleman Lyons ‘07, and John Cuzzocrea ‘94. The third, but by far best looking, team included Rob Barber ‘79, Tim Valliere ‘84, Jim Cadranell ‘92, and Jim Clark ‘84. Following golf the players retreated to the bar to assault one another’s golf game and to take one last shot at the integrity of each other’s fraternity.  It is always a great day of fellowship and outstanding athleticism.  We invite you all to join us for one of our future outings!

A big thank you to Jim Clark ‘84, for providing details for the Golf Outing recap.
